"Memphis Belle"

We talked in class about comparisons and contrasts between "Memphis Belle" and All Quiet. One line from the movie was "Those that I fight I do not hate, those I guard I do not love." (It was from the poem he read.) What are your feelings about that quote? Are there other things you want to say or point out about the movie?

INFERNO MONDAY!!!

This picture is of the historical people who flew this mission, not from the movie.

I think the reason he saying that is just because he is fighting them doesn't actually mean he hates them on. He doesn't know them personally so he really can't them. The ones that he is guarding he probably didn't know them either he's just fighting in a war that doen't have any meaning. This is kind of how Paul felt in a quite about why he was just fighting in war with no meaning.

"Those I fight I do not hate, those I guard I do not love."

When a soldier goes to war, he goes to war usually not out of hate, but to protect his country. He doesn't go out with the mindset, "I hate you! Here I come to kill you!" Of course not!

Even though he goes out to fight for his country, he doesn't know everybody individually. Plus, he may have a few enemies back at home, but a soldier goes out to fight for his country in general, not for a few individuals...

Hopefully that made sense...

i'm not too sure on what to do with the blog comments, so if i'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

i find this quote interesting. i feel like its speaking about the toll war has, or even the way that war just is. you have your two or more sides fighting for something with a bunch of citizens from the chosen boundary. so, basically, its a group of random people that(unless they're really, really popular with the whole country or something)don't know majority of the people they are fighting for. they go with the intention to protect, not to kill. but i also would like to say that war takes a certain toll on the soldiers that causes them an emotional numbing and over time creates some sort of living zombie out of the soldiers. its a little sad, but well spoken quote.
