The New Song

I know that some of you probably are not nuts about the new song I have put on here. However, I specifically selected that song for a reason. An excerpt from the lyrics to that song are posted below. We will be hearing this week from an eye witness to history. You will become an eye witness to an eye witness. Your children will never have this opportunity. These people, and their stories, are kept alive through you and I.

REMEMBER ME
(James Horner/Cynthia Weil)
(Performed by Josh Groban with Tanja Tzarovska)

Remember:
I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory

I'm with you whenever
You tell my story
For I am all I've done

I think it's interesting how we are close to not having anymore holocaust survivors and soon people will have more confidence on the fact that it didn't happen, from all the horrible stuff that went on in the camps and how hard it is to believe that something like that could happen in our history it's reasonible for people to believe that it never happened. In Night it described in amazing detail how horrible the camps were, and it was just through the eyes of a guy who was in there for about a year. Just imagine being in the camps from the beginning of the holocaust.

I love Josh Groban, and even though this song was really different, I liked it a lot. I think it's one of those songs that digs sort of deep and tells a story, especially when relating it to the Holocaust. In Echoes from the Holocaust (where I seem to get every single one of my references now) Mira relentlesly says to continue her story, and the stories of other victims. Soon they will not be able to speak it themselves, and it will be up to us to speak what we know is true. I was in utter shock and disbelief to witness deniers' view of the "Holohoax", as they often called it. Heaven forbid, but if we were to stumble into a Holocaust, it would be because we failed to speak up, and we played the role of the "little guy". This song is a geat example of what our responsibily is. We didn't help the victims during the Holocaust, but we can help now by telling their stories.

I think it's odd how people still deny the Holocaust since stories from Holocaust survivors, liberator stories, pictures, and records exist and are out there. I honestly don't know how people believe it was all a big hoax. However when the time comes and all of the survivors and liberators have passed on, then it will probably be more likely that more people will start denying the Holocaust. Which would be a very unfortunate occurence. I don't think people should try and erase a piece of history just because they don't like it or they are ashamed of it. I was always told that history was taught to help decrease the possibility of something unfortunate happening in the from past happening in the future. If history repeats itself and people start erasing memories of the Holocaust and are not taught about it, then what would happen in the future?
